Once the flexible flashing is set i apply a piece of housewrap along the wall where the fascia meets it.
Roof to wall siding flashing.
Multiple pieces of the flashing will be installed in layers with shingles to ensure the water flows away from the wall.
Flexible flashing tape seals the eave to the wall.
However the typical recommended width of step flashing ranges from 5 inches to 10 inches.
Likewise a 10 wide flashing will result in a 5 inch wide roof deck flange and a 5 inch vertical flange.
Above the roof sheathing.
At roof to wall intersections see figure 1.
Step 6 make a 10 degree bend on the shingle edge of the flashing approximately 1 2 inch from the edge.
Most flashing is 8 inches wide.
Install roofing felt before starting step flashing.
I cut the tape so that it laps onto the housewrap above and 3 in.
Install the kickout flashing.
Tape the top of step flashing with 4 inch wide minimum self adhering modified bitumen roof tape.
It is used for roof to wall flashing.
Run roofing felt up the wall about an inch higher than the wall side.
Use step flashing that has a 2 to 4 inch longer vertical leg than normal.
The roofing contractors usually try to slide the roof flashing up behind lapped siding but many times this can be a chore and sometimes the exterior wall covering and or the existing water resistive barrier house wrap gets damaged in the process.
If your house has a roof line that extends past a corner of two walls make the first piece of step flashing a corner.
For deck flashing.
The flashing needs to be installed before installing the roof shingles the metal flashing is formed with a hook edge and cleated on 12 centers the flashing extends up the wall at least 4 the flashing extends onto the roof a minimum of 2 inches 4 inches is preferable in more severe climate areas.
Use the metal break tool to bend the flashing lengthwise in the middle according to the angle of the roof joint.

The solution to rotting sidewalls is a small piece of bent metal called a kickout flashing at roofing suppliers which simply directs all that water away from the wall.
Kickout flashing installs just like standard step flashing except that half of the kickout flashing hangs over the edge of the roof.
A 5 inch wide flashing will result in a 2 1 2 roof deck flange and 2 1 2 vertical wall flange.
Do not seal housewrap or building paper to step flashing.
